The founder of the Brooklyn Community Chorus, Marlene Clary, was for 18 years the Chair of Performing Arts at the Berkeley Carroll School in Park Slope, Brooklyn, where she also formed the Berkeley Carroll Adult Choir. In 2001, Marlene moved the adult choir out of the school and into the community at large, with Old First Reformed Church as its home, and BCC was born.
Marlene’s vision was to provide an opportunity for people of various ages and musical experience to gather and make music in many styles. Her leadership and musicality; her commitment to teaching and mentoring; and her passion for music, theater, and creative expression inspired everyone who met or worked with her.
